Identify by airplane characteristics

Below check the specific characteristics of the aircraft you are looking for. You can select multiple items for each characteristic. The results will be filtered automatically.

Xian MA60/MA600

Being developed from the Xian Y7, itself an Antonov An-24 clone, the MA60 and MA600 share a lot of elements with the original aircraft. The MA60 and MA600 have more and smaller cabin windows, and different cockpit windows as primary recognition points.

Xian Y-20

As a good Chinese custom the manufacturer has looked well at comparable aircraft. You can clearly see that the wings and engines of the Xian Y-20 nearly identical to that of the Ilyushin 76. The tail could very well come from the C-17. Only the nose is different from those to aircraft, making recognition easy.

Like the Comac C919 the MC-21 can be seen as a clone of the A320. The difference with the C919 is clear, as the Chinese aircraft has four cockpit windows and the MC-21 six. To distinguish the MC-21 from the A320 it is best to look at the wingtips. For now the MC-21 has no winglets.

Yakovlev Yak-1/3/7/9 family

This family of fighters with liquid cooled engines has straight wings with rounded tips and straight edges. The main gears retract inward in the wings. There is a cooler underneath the middle of the fuselage, and most versions also have intakes in the wing roots.

Yakovlev Yak-130

The Yak-130 was at first a joint venture between Yakovlev and Aermacchi, but in the end both manufacturers went their own way. Hence, the resemblance between the Yak-130 and M346 is not remarkable. The Yak-130 has small nose gear doors and trailing link landing gear legs as main recognition points.

Yakovlev Yak-141

On the photo the Yak-141 looks like a normal fighter with wedge shaped air intakes, though somewhat 'boxy'. However, it is a a V/STOL aircraft with two jet engines mounted almost vertically, behind the cockpit. The third engine has a swivelling exhaust in between the tail booms, that hold small vertical stabilisers.

Yakovlev Yak-18/Nanchang CJ5

The Yak-18 (and Nanchang CJ5 license built Chinese version) is especially recognised by the cowling that is wrapped around the five pistons of the radial engine. Furthermore, it has a main gear that partially retracts in the wings, rearward.

Yakovlev Yak-18T

Thanks to the large diameter prop on the radial piston engine the Yak-18T has quite a long gear. Other features are the rounded tail of fabric covered frames, and inner wings without dihedral. Finally, the cockpit/cabin has windows in the roof as well.

Yakovlev Yak-23

Like similar Yakovlev designs the air intake in the nose feeds a jet engine which has the exhaust underneath the middle of the fuselage. The cockpit is about above the exhaust. The Yak-23 is recognised by the trapezium shaped, non-swept and cruciform tail.

Yakovlev Yak-25 family

The Yak-25 is a fighter bomber aircraft that has engines in long pods under the wings and a tandem undercarriage, like other Yakovlev designs. The aft main gear is below the wings. Most versions of the family have a blunt nose.
