Stratos Aircraft has announced the first flight of its very light jet under development, the Stratos 716, on 2 July 2020. It concerns the kit-built version, designated Stratos 716X. The flight of the aircraft registered N716X from Redmond (OR) lasted about twenty minutes and was uneventfull.
The Stratos 716X is the follow-up of the smaller proof-of-concept Stratos 714 that was launched in 2008. The initial aircraft made its first flight in November 2016 and has accumulated more 200 flight hours during 140+ test flights. The Stratos 716X is powered by a Pratt & Whitney JT15D-5 engine, while for the production version (marketed as the Stratos 716) the PW535 has been selected. Stratos Aircraft plans to built several $2.5 million 716X aircraft before starting production of the Stratos 716. (photo Stratos Aircraft)
